Cheyenne topical word lists
It is not possible to learn to speak a language just by memorizing word
lists. To learn a language you must learn natural phrases, words put
together which make sense for everyday talking, just as people use any
living language. (You can learn such natural phrases from the cassette
language learning course, Let's Talk Cheyenne.)
However, it can be useful to learn some words from lists, since this
will increase your vocabulary. Just be sure that you use these words in
natural phrases and sentences. For more discussion about Cheyenne
language learning, read our language learning page.
Now, even though I always encourage people to learn to speak in natural
phrases and sentences, I realize that it is interesting and of some
value to see lists of words. So at this Web page we have lists of
Cheyenne words on various topics, such as animals, weather, school
activities, etc. Most of these lists come from the Cheyenne Topical Dictionary which is available for purchase at a number of places, including Dull Knife Memorial College in Lame Deer, Montana, and CCEP in Busby, Montana.
Many of these words can also be found in our Cheyenne Picture Dictionary and Cheyenne Online Dictionary.
(Remember that there are other ways to spell Cheyenne
words from the spellings in these word lists. For more on Cheyenne
spelling, read the discussion of spelling rules and different alphabets.)
